This is the Monthly Overview index which will provide a very important feature of the site that might be at risk for being overlooked by those focusing solely on the individual song reviews.

One of the recurring themes of this look back at rock history is to always be aware of the context of the times in which these records were released.  What we take for granted today wasn’t always so and to use modern standards and views to evaluate the past can be a dangerous thing because it removes the subjects from the environment that shaped them and that they in turn shaped with their music.  So these Monthly Overviews will provide an interesting and entertaining way of setting the scene for the world which all of these records entered into at the time.

These pages will be sort of a random “catch-all” look back at bygone times where you’ll also be able to hear a popular non-rock record for each month to better be able to understand what the musical scene was like outside of the insular rock world we focus on here.  There will also be brief, but relevant, stories of various things that you would’ve been aware of if you’d been around during that time… not necessarily world events or political milestones that fill the many “This Day In History” pages on the internet, but rather examples of the day to day life that existed at the time.

Finally on each of these pages there will be an Index of all of the records we’ve reviewed here on Spontaneous Lunacy that were released that month, sort of like a miniaturized Master Index, set up the same way to keep you from having to jump back to the Master Index to get to a review.
